New Year, New Look & New Auctions

Remarkably, 2018 is Leonard Joel’s 99th year of continuous business and I am excited that it coincides with unveiling an elegant, new look at our Melbourne Headquarters, which have been fully decorated over the summer, and the introduction of a new auction calendar.

2017 was an exceptional year for us with almost 50,000 lots sold at auction, a turnover of almost $30 million and the successful auction of several exceptional Private Collections.

Since I became Managing Director of Leonard Joel nine years ago, our carefully planned strategic growth and the development of what I believe is a robust business model (which includes the ever popular Thursdays at Leonard Joel, complimented by Private Collections, Fine Auctions and Speciality Auctions) means that we now proudly operate a dynamic and sustainable auction house.

As we look to the year ahead and beyond, our aim is to continue to respond to the market place, the tastes and collecting habits of the 21st century collector, both new and traditional, with a refined and relevant business.

We will also focus on developing our Private Collections department, which has taken significant steps forward in recent years, and on defining our Fine Auction categories of Art, Jewels, Decorative Arts and Modern Design, as well as our Speciality Auction categories which include Prints & Photography, Luxury and Luxury Residences, all of which appeal to the newer collectors.

I am very much looking forward to what promises to be an exciting year for Leonard Joel and I look forward to welcoming you to our Melbourne and Sydney salerooms soon.
