A profile of Cassina
“Amedeo Cassina” was created by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina in 1927 in Meda, Italy, and the company has been designing innovative furniture for over 90 years.
The company launched industrial design in Italy during the 1950’s by taking a completely new approach to their predecessors, shifting from handcraftsmanship to serial production. They were champions of research and innovation, which led to many groundbreaking designs that are still being produced today by some of the most talented designers and architects.
Cassina wanted their designs to be perfectly functional, of excellent proportions and so neutral that it will take on the personality of its owner, leading them to reinvent chairs and other pieces of furniture as if no one had ever built them before. In 1964 the “Cassina I Maestri” (Cassina Masters) Collection was created, which included the acquisition of the rights to products designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, arguably the most acclaimed 20th century designers.
The Cassina brand today still remains true to their original vision, producing the most innovative, classic and contemporary designs of the 20th century and beyond. Our July Modern Design auction will include some rare and exciting pieces from this famous Italian furniture manufacturer.
