Named after French revolutionary Pierre-Joseph Cambon, rue Cambon remains one of the most fashionable promenades in Paris, nestled between the Colonne Vendôme, Jardin des Tuileries and intersecting with the very chic rue Saint-Honoré. It is also where Gabrielle Chanel chose to open ‘Chanel Modes’, her hat shop at No. 21 rue Cambon in 1910.
Quickly gaining recognition for her talents, Gabrielle decided that she needed a larger space, so she acquired 31 rue Cambon and The House of Chanel was born. With the move to No.31, Chanel expanded and entered the world of high fashion, accessories, fragrance and make up.
This famous address remains synonymous with the contemporary Chanel brand, and regularly appears in designs of their fashion and accessories. Our winter Luxury auction will feature a number of pieces with the iconic 31 rue Cambon insignia, as illustrated above.
