Diamonds: An Endless Fascination

Undoubtedly the most desired gemstone in the world, the demand for this precious gemstone remains as strong today as it always has been.

One of the most impressive diamonds in history was recently unearthed in Lesotho, South Africa. Weighing in at an extraordinary 910ct, the find attracted media interest all over the world. Remarkably, this stone was far smaller than the largest diamond to ever be discovered which was the Cullinan diamond which weighed 3,106ct, mined in Pretoria South Africa in 1905. It was was later faceted into two cut diamonds, the Great Star of Africa at 530.20cts and the lesser Second Star of Africa weighing 317.40cts, which are famously set in the crown jewels of Great Britain.

Featured in our upcoming March Jewels Auction is a fine selection of diamond jewellery, a small sample of which is illustrated here.
